Canadian immigration can be complicated. Danielle Samuels, Vivian Becker and Kelvin Wu from the Housing and Relocation services office are here to help answer questions you have about the immigration process in Canada. At this workshop we plan to answer the following questions:
- Do I need a work permit?
- How do I renew my work permit?
- What about my spouse and children?
- How do I get permanent residence?
- How do I become a Canadian citizen?

Danielle Samuels RCIC, Commissioner for Taking Affidavits Danielle Samuels is the Relocation Manager for UBC. She manages immigration for all the relocating faculty and current staff members at UBC. She has over 7 years immigration experience in both the UK and Canada. |

Vivian Becker RCIC, Commissioner for Taking Affidavits Vivian Becker is the Senior Immigration Program Advisor for UBC. She advises Faculty and Staff on matters regarding temporary residence (work permits, study permits, visitor records, temporary residents visas); permanent residence (economic class, family class, provincial and federal applications) and provides guidance on refusal decisions, requests for reconsiderations and restoration of status applications. She has over 8 years of immigration advising experience. |

Kelvin Wu RCIC Kelvin Wu is an Immigration Program Advisor for UBC. He advises Faculty and Staff on matters regarding temporary residence (work permits, study permits, visitor records, temporary residents visas); permanent residence (economic class, family class, provincial and federal applications) and provides guidance on refusal decisions, requests for reconsiderations and restoration of status applications. He has over 7 years of immigration experience working for the provincial and the federal government. |
REGISTRATION
Registration in this session is required, and is now open. Those postdocs who are successfully registered will receive a confirmation email within one week of the session date.
DELIVERY FORMAT
Due to the ongoing situation surrounding COVID-19, this session will be delivered online via Zoom. The following suggestions may help to improve the online experience:
- Use headphones to reduce noise and avoid feedback between your mic and speaker.
- Ensure that you are in a quiet location so that the audio does not get polluted with unwanted noise.
- Keep your microphone on mute unless you are speaking during the session.
- In case of technical problems, time for plugin downloads, etc., please attempt to log into the Zoom meeting 10-15 minutes before the start. You will be placed in the waiting room until the official start time.
