Postdoctoral fellows recognized with Killam Fellow Research Prizes

The Postdoctoral Fellows Office in the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies is pleased to announce the winners of the 2024 Killam Postdoctoral Fellow Research Prize. Both recipients will receive an award of $5,000 for outstanding research achievements during their time as UBC Postdoctoral Fellows.

The winners of the 2024 Killam Postdoctoral Fellow Research Prize are:

  • Dr. Michael Asamoah-Boaheng (Faculty of Medicine)

Dr. Asamoah-Boaheng is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Emergency Medicine. His research investigates vaccination strategies and the burden of COVID-19 among paramedics; and optimal management of cardiac arrest in our communities. Dr. Asamoah-Boaheng analyzes data from a national study of paramedics in Canada (CORSIP) and the BC Cardiac Arrest Registry, which has yielded multiple publications in high-impact journals.

  • Dr. Saeed Ataie (Faculty of Science)

Dr. Ataie is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Chemistry. He developed an efficient catalytic method to add amine groups to polyethylene, converting them to positively charged ammonium. This scalable, waste-free process creates antibacterial polyethylene coatings, enhancing material properties for protective applications. It accommodates various amines, further expanding its versatility across different polyolefin-based materials.

The Killam Postdoctoral Fellow Research Prize is awarded annually for excellence in research. Established in 2011, the Killam PDF Prize is in memory of Izaak Walton Killam and his wife, Dorothy Johnston Killam, who together created the Killam trusts. Two prizes in the amount of $5,000 each are awarded to fulltime Postdoctoral Fellows at UBC in recognition of outstanding research and scholarly contributions while at UBC.
