The John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design, at the University of Toronto, invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment in the area of History and Theory of Architecture, Landscape, and Environment. This appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor with an expected start date of July 1, 2023, or shortly thereafter.
Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in the history of architecture, landscape architecture, urbanism, environmental studies, geography, or a relevant field by the time of the appointment, or shortly thereafter. A professional degree in architecture or landscape architecture, a post-professional degree in urban design, or a graduate degree in a related field is desirable. Candidates must have a demonstrated record of excellence in research and/or creative professional activity, as well as in teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing strengths. The successful candidate should show a strong commitment to exploring the relationship between the natural and built environments. Candidates should demonstrate a perspective on response to the climate crisis and knowledge of the history of environment as both a concept and in relation to architecture, landscape architecture, and urbanism more broadly.
Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research, and/or creative professional activity through their submitted research statement; publications in recognized, field-relevant journals, forthcoming high impact publications, and/or research in progress that targets such publication venues; participation in field-leading research projects and professional networks; presentations at academic or field-relevant conferences; awards and accolades; other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline; and strong endorsements by referees of high standing.
