Azrieli CHILD-BRIGHT Fellowship Program

CHILD-BRIGHT is a pan-Canadian patient-oriented research (POR) network that focuses on creating brighter futures for children with brain-based developmental disabilities (BDD) and their families. Our goal is to become a movement for change. As such, a major focus for our network is moving research into action through a highly integrated approach comprised of inclusivity and methods grounded in implementation science (IS) and knowledge mobilization (KM). In collaboration with the Azrieli Foundation, we are excited to launch this opportunity in support of recruiting a cohort of postdoctoral researchers to work on our IS research projects and supporting programs to mobilize knowledge to action in support of children with BDD and their families.   

In the past 6 years, CHILD-BRIGHT has created a community of over 300 researchers, youth with disabilities, parent-partners, clinicians, and health decision makers who have collaborated to generate new research knowledge as prioritized by our youth and family partners. In these research projects we studied new diagnostic tests, therapies, service models, and technologies to optimize the physical and mental health of Canadian children born with brain-based disorders as well as the well-being of their caregivers and families.

Building on the work of this research, CHILD-BRIGHT is now focusing on our commitment to equitably mobilize and implement the knowledge that has been generated. To achieve this aim, we will build off of the momentum generated through our previous efforts and conduct 10 IS research projects organized into 3 groups based on the type of output that is to be implemented:

Group 1: Implementation of new practice guidelines

Group 2: Implementation of new eHealth technologies

Group 3: Implementation of new practice roles

In addition, we have developed 5 collaborative programs that support the research projects and advance the network’s efforts. The programs include:

CHILD-BRIGHT is looking to fill 6 or more postdoctoral positions for up to two years. Applicants should have a passion for supporting children with brain-based developmental disabilities and their families. Applicants should also have a strong interest in POR and EDI-DI. Ideally, applicants will have strengths in implementation science research and expertise in disseminating research knowledge and supporting the uptake of evidence into practice. CHILD-BRIGHT plans to hire multiple postdoctoral researchers whose interests and expertise align with our values and the needs of the network. These positions will be co-developed based on alignment between applicant, and the project and program teams.

Role

• Support the advancement of POR to support children with brain-based developmental disabilities and their families.
• Design and conduct research studies within existing project(s) and program(s) as they move to the next phase of work involving knowledge mobilization and implementation science.
• Lead aspects of CHILD-BRIGHT research project(s) and program(s), where applicable.
• Support the network to be more equitable and inclusive, working closely with the EDI-DI Program.
• Assist with the submission of funding applications.
• Assist with the preparation of a range of evidence-informed knowledge mobilization strategies to share findings with lay and academic audiences and support the uptake of new knowledge.
• Present work at internal, local, national, and international meetings/conferences
• Supervise, mentor, and/or train CHILD-BRIGHT trainees and other project team members.
• Engage with other CHILD-BRIGHT postdoctoral researchers.
• Engage in management and administrative duties as needed.
• Collaborate with other projects, programs, network members (e.g., patient-partners, researchers, staff, trainees), and external collaborators.
